How to Restore Settings in Windows XP

Monday, January 31, 2011
Most PC users find their computer does not work as well from time to time as they would hope. Sometimes a problem occurs because of a program that was downloaded. Other times there are problems thanks to the fact a program or feature on the computer is not working correctly. Windows XP includes a system restore feature that allows users to choose a date to which their computers can be reset. This allows users to essentially turn back time, and the computer will work as if the problem never existed.
Instruction And Window xp Settings:
  1. Click on the "Start" button on the main screen. Point the mouse onto "All Programs." A new menu will open. Select "Accessories" from this menu, then click "System Tools" and "System Restore."

  2. Watch as a "Welcome" screen appears on the computer. Click on the button that says "Restore My Computer to an Earlier Point." Click "Next."

  3. Select the date on the calendar that appears. This allows you to choose a point in which the system should restore itself. In most cases, there is a system restore point bookmarked once every few days.

  4. Verify the right restore point is selected when the "Conform System Restore Point Selection Page" opens. Close any of the programs that are open on the computer.

  5. Click "Next" when you have verified the date selected is the date you want. Click "Back" to change this date.

  6. Watch as the computer automatically restarts itself. After the computer has rebooted, a "Restoration Complete" page will appear. Click "OK" when this page appears.
